In the beginning, the present Pazhayidom St Michael’s Church and Tharakanattukunnu( Chenappady) St Antony’s churches were chapels of St Ephrem’s Church. They got independent in the year 1923 and 1926 respectively.

Then we were blessed with 4 chappals in the 1960s at 3 boundaries namely Saint Sebastian’s Chapel at Padanilam, Saint George Chapel at Valakayam and Saint Mary’s Chapel at paruthanmala and another at the centre Saint Martin’s Chapel at Mannamplavu.

In that year ……..Saint Sebastian Church Padanilam was separated and became an independent Parish. Now we have three Chapels.

Valakayam Saint George chapel

Saint George Chapel at Valakayam junction was blessed on 24th September 1951. 1916 onwards there was a procession to Valakayam junction every year for the parish feast. From 1951 onwards regular Sunday mass was started here. In 1961 a new Chapel was constructed a little away from the roadside and Sunday masses were celebrated in this new chapel then onwards. In 2021 the chapel at Valakayam junction was renovated by Rev Fr John Vettuvayalil and weekly mass on Fridays is being celebrated here. This has become a place of prayer and blessings to those who pass by this place.

Paruthanmala Saint Mary’s Chapel

There was a group of Christian families of Chirakkadavu, Anchilippa And Chenappady parishes for whom their parishes were in a quiet distance and were finding it extremely difficult to perform their spiritual activities. For them these parishes were more than 3 km away and Chenappady was separated from the river Manimala. During the rainy season there was no means to reach the church. So more than 60 families of this area gathered together as a result of their effort and prayers on September 8 1965 the stone for the construction of the church was laid. It was a blessing for the area where people were isolated. In the beginning, the Sunday masses were offered by the priests from the parishes Chirakkadavu, anchilippa and Chenappaddy as per the availability of the priests. But the chapel was under Chirakkadvu parish. The maintenance work in the year 2021 changed the face of the chapel and beautified it to its maximum and stays as blessings to the location by the great effort of Rev Fr John Vettuvayalil, our vicar.
