The convents and the religious presences in our Parish
St Pius Convent
In 1954 CMC sisters were invited by Rev Fr Thomas Pazhayaparambil and started a convent in the name of St Pius X. As the charism of their founder Saint Chavara Kuriakose Elias they engaged themselves in teaching and educating the people. In the beginning they turned the school into their convent. In 1955 on March 13 the congregation bought 2.5 acres of land from Mr Pappachy ottaplackal ( Chuzhikunnel).
Foundation stone laid by Mar Antony Padiyara on January 2nd 1956 and construction completed by 25th May 1958 and blessed by Rev Fr Abraham Thekkemury and First Holy mass was celebrated by Rev Fr John Kunnappally. In 1967 as the chirakkadavu parish was celebrating its Platinum Jubilee, the convent began a Balika Bhavan for the empowerment of girl children of the economically backward families. Balika Bhavan took care of the children up to their school education.
Around 500 children were taken care of by this institute and among them 70 have become convent nuns by seeing and inspired by the good examples they had experienced from the convent nuns.
In 1967 itself the nursery school was also begun by the convent. A tailoring institute also was running under the direction of the sisters for the upliftment of the women of the parish.
Balika Bhavan was forced to stop, due to heavy regulation from the part of the government and the abandoned Balika Bhavan was converted to Homeo Dispensary in the name of Carmel Homeo Clinic by Dr Sr Josini CMC.
